A few years after publishing his autobiography, “An Abundant Life” life changed dramatically for John, his wife Judy and their daughters Sally and Lisa when their son Timothy, was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Tim died eight months later. John shares from his heart the hurt and grief he and his wife Judy are contending with. He writes about his own surfing adventures and he shares other’s stories about Tim’s passion for surfing.

After serving as an Army officer in Vietnam in 1969. John embarked on a successful corporate business career. But he pulled the plug on this to become a surf shop proprietor on Sydney’s northern beaches, where he mixed professionally and socially with some of surfing’s best and greatest.

John served on his local Council in Sydney and soon after moving to the Gold Coast in 1987 he was elected to the Australian Parliament, where he served under three Prime Ministers: Hawke, Keating and Howard. He counts Tony Abbott as good friend. After leaving the Parliament at the end of 1998 John and his family left Australia as missionaries serving in Mongolia with the Bible Society and then with YWAM (Mercy Ships) in the UK and USA.

John has recently turned 70, but retirement is not on his agenda. After a life full so far with adventure he wants more! John’s Christian faith is his undergirding. His passion for surfing has been lifelong and continues today albeit at a slower pace.
